Lauren and Dan's Great South Run

Good condition kids clothes wanted

Hi All,

Many of you know we have this years Children arriving from Chernobyl on the 1st June, we have been collecting good condition secondhand clothes throughout the year, but we could really do with some more.

We have 14 Children arriving from Belarus and there are 7 boys and 7 girls, they are all aged 10 & 11 years old.

Can I ask if you have any good condition childrens clothes between the ages of 9-13 years for which you have no use for any more, we would really appreciate them.

If you can please get in touch, we will arrange for someone to collect them or we could arrange for you to drop them off at a location in either Hayling or Portsmouth.

One of the items we are desperate for is Jelly bean type shoes, as the children will be doing several activities on the local shorelines, and as yet we have no pairs.

Please if you can help, you will make some young children very happy.

Our thanks go to Natalie and Chris who arranged the evening which was a great sucess and the raised £296 toward out funds.

The gig showed just how much local talent there is with the individual artists and also with their debut gig Amarda.

Dirty Sky Jones (Sam Jones) Three Peeks Challange - Saturday 8th July 2011

On the 8th July 2011 Dirty Sky Jones is part of a team that are going to be taking part in the 3 peaks challenge. They will be climbing Ben Nevis, Snowdon, and Scafel Pike all within 24 hours!

It’s not going to be an easy job and will be a personal challenge for all the team members.

25th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster

April 26th 2011 will mark the 25th anniversary of the catastrophic failure and subsequent explosion of reactor number 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in Ukraine, just south of its border with Belarus.

The Portsmouth & Hayling Island Link (PHIL) are part of a national charity founded in 1992 by Victor Mizzi M.B.E. The Chernobyl Children’s Life Line (CCLL) raise money to support the children of Belarus and Ukraine, whose lives will be forever affected by the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster, the funds raised allow the children to visit the UK for four week respite holiday, today over 45,000 children have been able to visit the UK. The four week recuperative break, away from contaminated food, water and air boosts their immune systems and makes a real difference to their health and well being.

April 26th 2011 will not be a day of celebration - however it will be an unique opportunity raise awareness and to remind the world that this is a disaster that will never go away.

We are joining together with charities across Europe that supports Chernobyl children; our aim is to have "25" in candles burning as far as afield as the contamination spread during the initial explosion.

We are arranging for groups of supporters to have their photos taken in the formation of 25.

These photos will be used on our website and in the local media to raise awareness of the 25^th anniversary and to focus on a series of candlelit vigil events across our local area on the 25^th April 2011 at 8.00pm.

PHIL-CCLL - Chernobyl Children's Life Line

The Portsmouth & Hayling Island Link (PHIL) of the Chernobyl Children Life Line Charity (CCLL) are supported by six host families, Committee, Friends and Supporters.

Each year we arranged for 12 children to visit Portsmouth and Hayling Island on a recuperative break from the Chernobyl area.

You may already know that as a consequence of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986, many of the children from Belarus and the Ukraine suffer from or will go on to develop genetic blood disorders, thyroid & bone cancers and leukemia and / or experience social hardship.

The four week recuperative break, away from contaminated food, water and air boosts their immune systems to make a real difference to their health and lives.
